We are looking for a Volunteer Gardening Activity Assistant to support people who live in Castlebrae Glebe Very Sheltered Housing Development in the east side of Edinburgh – EH16 4BD
Why do we Need You?
These group activities help to reduce isolation and increase community involvement. Volunteer Gardening Activity Assistants help by assisting our service users in light gardening duties such as: planting and weeding, keeping the garden neat, constructing raised flower beds, designing hanging baskets, etc.
Duties of the Volunteer
We are looking for a volunteer to assist the service users to undertake gardening projects inside and outside the development.
When do we need You?
We would love to have a volunteer to help us any weekday morning or afternoon. Days and times can be flexible and agreed locally
A minimum six-month commitment is required.
What skills/experience/training do you need?
No experience or qualifications are required. We are looking for volunteers who have a genuine interest in working with older people, have good communication skills, are reliable, and are able to work both in an unsupervised capacity and as part of a team.
Volunteers should have a basic knowledge of gardening. Such as planting seeds, weeding and watering plants and be willing to volunteer outside in a garden setting.
For this role, you will need to complete a Disclosure Scotland check at no cost to yourself.
What training and support will you receive?
You will receive a full induction into your place of volunteering and will be offered a four-visit trial period. You will receive regular support and supervision by your Volunteer Line Manager. Other relevant training may be undertaken where appropriate.
You will be reimbursed for your travel expenses from your home, to your place of volunteering and back home again, at a rate of .45 pence per mile up to 15 miles from the development (30 miles round trip). Any mileage undertaken in the course of your volunteering will also be reimbursed at the same rate.
All out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
